1. Introduction

Mental Health Awareness is so important. It is something that we speak about a lot throughout our blog. One of the main reasons we wanted to make this a feature within our blog is because of our Dad and the medical conditions he suffered.

Our Dad was hospitalised in September 2016, sadly passing away in March 2017. His initial Diagnosis was a serious and life-threatening condition, Infective Endocarditis. As a result of his diagnosis, unfortunately, he suffered many other conditions. One of those is Delirium. Both of these situations were very scary, worrying and unsettling for us. we’d never heard of his medical condition before, and we’d never witnessed someone in delirium much less it being our Dad.

Delirium is a serious disturbance in mental abilities that results in confused thinking and reduced awareness of the environment. The start of delirium is usually rapid — within hours or a few days”. (1 Sept 2020)

The theme for this year is Loneliness in life there are many situations and circumstances that can lead you to feel isolated and alone. You could be surrounded by people and still feel alone.

The pandemic is something that has had a huge impact on life worldwide. Everything we knew about living and going about our daily lives changed in what felt like less than a blink of an eye.

  • Shielding
  • Self-isolating
  • Lockdown
  • Losses – loss of life, friendships, job, home, the life we once knew and lived.

Thankfully things are starting to open up a bit more and life as it once was, is starting to return, but the long-lasting effects of the lockdown can still linger.

We had to readjust to an extreme new way of life for the past three years, now that way of life needs to be reversed, we need to retrain our brains into getting back to the way we used to live and socialise.

Our mental state of mind will always be important, but especially more so now with the major worldwide changes that have occurred over the last few years. For this reason, we will always do our best to try and help to further create, share and spread awareness of matters of this kind.
