1. Introduction to Men’s Health Awareness Month 2022

Our health mentally and physically is oh so important. Without our health, what do we really have? Our blog is about sharing our experiences of the unknowns of grief. But is also about our entire journey and what we experienced as a family from the moment our Dad was hospitalised in September 2016.

We are in our situation because our Dad was hospitalised in September 2016, being diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition: Infective Endocarditis. This was a shock for us in many ways. For a start, we had never ever heard of this condition before, and this was the first time in our lives that our Dad was admitted to stay in hospital. Throughout our Dad’s whole life he had never had to stay in the hospital for longer than one night. (we have topics on Infective Endocarditis and Infective Endocarditis and Blindness).

My sister and I feel that just like matters of grief can be deemed taboo, so too can Men’s health. It is equally important for Men’s health to be highlighted and for it to be discussed. Some conditions affect men more than men and vice versa.

Unfortunately, our Dad is no longer here, and we as his daughters are trying our best to help contribute to making a change in talking about these kinds of things in his honour. For these reasons is why we have done this as a topic on its own.
