1. Introduction to the topic
This week is Dying Matters Awareness Week. This is an awareness that my sister and I had not known about, but since discovering it, we have done topics on it. The idea of planning your end of life, knowing that the final decisions made were your own choice can make a difference to the end of such a journey. Mentally it helps you to feel you kept your dignity and respect right up until the end. This is also why my sister and I feel that although maybe awkward, difficult, or uncomfortable, these sorts of conversations are very important to have in the here and now.
The theme for this year is Dying Matters at Work, with the aim of encouraging people to talk about death, dying, and grief in the workplace.
My sister and I feel very passionate about this. Especially with our situation and dealing with the loss of our Dad whilst in full-time employment. We spend the majority of our time at work, therefore our mental state of mind both physically and mentally is very important. Feeling supported, understood, and heard is also very important. Feeling supported at work when going through a loss really would make a difference. There are so many things going on when going through something like this, so the less stress and worry there is for you the better you can manage and make your way through your journey.
My sister and I will always continue to try our best to advocate for matters of this kind and share information whenever possible.
