1. Introduction

Today (September 13th) is World Sepsis Day.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that we believe needs all the awareness it can get.

Sepsis is something that we feel strongly about. The main reason for this is that when our Dad was an inpatient in the hospital he suffered from this. Unfortunately for us, we did not find this out until after our Dad had passed away. This greatly saddened us to know this was yet another condition that our Dad endured in the seven months that he was in the hospital (We have topics on Sepsis, Sepsis Awareness and Guest Blog: Rachel and Dave telling their Sepsis story: Scoot for Sepsis Campaign ).

Most recently for me, I had surgery for a Pilonidal Cyst that turned into an Pilonidal Abscess. The wound got infected twice, the second time it went into my bloodstream causing me to be in the early stages of Sepsis. I was so ill, I suffered effects of the toxins that the bacteria put into my bloodstream. It was a very scary experience, thankfully it was detected and treated fairly quickly, but it is something I wouldn’t want to go through again (We have a topic on: My Pilonidal Cyst/Abscess Surgery staphylococcus aureus bacteria/Sepsis (early stages)
