1. Introduction

Today is Time to Talk Day. This is an invaluable campaign put together by the charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. The aim is to encourage communities to come together and talk about Mental Health.

The saying goes, it’s good to talk. This is something that is helpful and beneficial and can make the greatest difference in a decision-making process.

It is not only good for decision-making, but also for our mental state of mind and well-being. It is not always easy to do. It might not always be possible, but talking about things, can make a difference to someone’s day and to the outcomes of situations.

Life has been a big challenge over the past few years. We became conditioned to a new way of life. Everything that we once knew was different.

  • Social distancing
  • Lockdowns
  • Isolating
  • Shielding

These are things that we hadn’t known and were not used to in our everyday life.

It felt like there might be no end in sight, and things would or couldn’t return to the normal that we had been accustomed to all our lives.

During the pandemic and lockdown period when everything became online including socialising, I personally almost programmed my mind to this being the “new normal” I blocked out what life was like before when we could do and go where we wanted, and be around people.

It wasn’t until things started returning to normal that I realised the huge impact it had, and it allowed me to realise and remember that I missed seeing people and talking to them in person. For these reasons, we felt it important to do this as a topic.
